The initial evaluation only includes one official evaluation copy in a sealed envelope. Each additional official sealed copy is $25 with the initial evaluation.

FAQs

Yes, if you qualify and meet all the requirements set by the State Board in California. In that case, you may take the exam by applying to the State Board, have your academic credential evaluated and provide all the necessary needs to sit for the Exam.
After getting admitted to the State Bar, you can apply online through the State Bar’s admissions portal. After you are admitted to the bar, you can officially start practicing law in California.

You can practice if you pass the State Bar exam and meet all the additional requirements. An accredited and approved evaluation agency must also evaluate your foreign degree.State Bar rules require applicants to

  • Pass the California bar examination
  • Receive a positive moral character determination
  • Pass the multistate professional responsibility examination
  • Comply with any California court order for child or family support
Applicants for admission are also required to provide their Social Security number. If you don't have a Social Security number, request for an exemption when you register with the State Bar.

All foreign-educated applicants are accepted to apply for the state Bar Exam, given that they meet the required standards set for the state laws and present an education evaluation, among other conditions.

Law students who completed their legal education outside the United States without receiving a qualifying first degree in law must establish their eligibility to take the California Bar Examination by showing they have:

  • successfully completed the equivalent of two years of undergraduate studies
  • passed or established an exemption from the First-Year Law Students’ Examination
  • completed four years of legal studies in the United States
